Description of the main activities of the Department
The main activities of the Department of Immunology revolve around conducting serological diagnosis for infectious diseases in domestic animals, with a primary focus on bacterial zoonoses such as brucellosis, leptospirosis, and Q fever. Serving as a national reference laboratory for brucellosis, sakagia, and durina, the department plays a pivotal role in disease surveillance, diagnosis, and control efforts within the country.
Activities at the Department:
- Immunodiagnosis of various diseases including brucellosis, leptospirosis, Q fever, ram epididymitis, chlamydiosis, neosporosis, sakagia, durina, mycoplasmosis, actinobacillus pleuropneumonia, tuberculosis, and paratuberculosis.
- Utilization of specific antibody detection methods such as microscopic agglutination test (MAT), rapid serum agglutination (Rose Bengal test), classical serum agglutination (SAT), complement binding reaction (RVK), and immunoenzyme test (ELISA).
- Culturing and maintenance of Leptospira cultures.
- Preparation of antigens, diagnostic reagents, and hyperimmune sera.
- Implementation of novel diagnostic techniques.
- Organization of training sessions for laboratory diagnostics.
- Participation in research activities including involvement in national and international projects, and collaboration with related laboratories and institutions.
