Organized by the Institute of Veterinary Medicine of Serbia in Belgrade, 40 experts from 28 European countries convened from 21 to 24 April to participate in this year’s meeting of the EU Reference Laboratories for Animal Proteins in Feedingstuffs (EURL-AP Workshop 2026).

In addition to facilitating the exchange of professional and scientific knowledge, as well as enhancing professional cooperation through the establishment of new contacts—both at the individual level and among the relevant European institutions represented—the meeting also provided a significant opportunity for the host institution, the Institute of Veterinary Medicine of Serbia, to present its institutional capacities.

The participants were welcomed by the Institute’s Director, Dr. Branislav Kureljušić, who highlighted a major milestone—the celebration of the Institute’s centenary, marking one hundred years of continuous operation. The Institute’s general activities, along with specific aspects related to the workshop’s theme, were presented by Dr. Ksenija Nešić. On behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia—Veterinary Directorate, attendees were addressed by Tamara Bošković, Head of the Department for Veterinary Public Health, who provided an overview of Serbia’s European Union accession process, with particular emphasis on the regulatory framework in the field of food and feed safety.

The meeting concluded with positive evaluations and commendations for the organization and for the results achieved over two decades of work in this field within the Institute. These efforts have led to a high level of alignment with European Union standards, both in terms of legislation and laboratory control of animal feed, while also exerting a positive impact on production practices in the Republic of Serbia.
