The Institute is authorized to ensure regular performance of the following activities:
• According to a predetermined plan or at the request of the Ministry, he visits the epizootic area in order to systematically monitor the epizootic situation, determine the cause of death of animals, transport pathological material, perform an epizootic investigation, suspect the occurrence of infectious diseases in animals and keep records of these activities.
• Directly participates in the detection and monitoring of infectious animal diseases, contributes to the prevention of occurrence, detection, prevention of spread, suppression and eradication of animal diseases in accordance with current regulations and recognized professional and scientific knowledge and international standards (OIE).
• Restores the inventory of necessary diagnostic and immunoprophylactic agents, stores and distributes veterinary drugs, medical devices for vaccination and diagnostic tests according to the Program of Measures, and maintains the inventory of the necessary quantities of diagnostic agents and epizootiological equipment necessary for timely sampling, diagnosis of infectious diseases and epizootiological research.
• Maintains the readiness of reference and other laboratories for tasks provided for in the decision on maintaining the status of accredited laboratories and the established scope of accreditation.
• Participates in inter-laboratory comparative testing, acquires standard strains and reference materials in a manner determined by the national reference laboratory for a particular disease, with the consent of the Ministry.
• Maintains a high level of preparedness of the epizootiology service in order to eradicate infectious diseases.
• Provides professional training for persons working in disease control teams, maintains equipment and resources necessary for disease control and eradication.
• In order to maintain preparedness for the emergence of dangerous infectious diseases, appoint at least two “epizootiological teams for the suppression of particularly dangerous infectious diseases of animals”, which will be in charge of responding urgently to the request of the Ministry in the event of the appearance of particularly dangerous diseases on the territory of the Republic of Serbia.
• Maintains material resources, equipment and other resources provided by the Ministry and donors (European Union, etc.) at the highest level.
• Provides professional and technical assistance to the preparation and implementation of management plans in crisis situations (crisis plans).
• When visiting the epizootic area, he informs and educates veterinarians and animal owners in the area of health care and animal welfare, and at the request of the Ministry, he participates in training programs for veterinary inspectors and veterinarians.
• Provides regular technical support, space, necessary equipment, consumables and printed material for the work of the regional center of the City of Belgrade, as well as hiring two trained operators for the work of the regional center of the City of Belgrade to enter and update the data of the central database, maintaining the necessary level of communication and connection of the veterinary inspections at the regional and local level with the Veterinary Administration and the competent institute.
